The Hoka ONE ONE Gaviota Women's Running Shoe is designed to give runners seeking a bit more support and control the comfort and cushion that Hoka ONE ONE has built its name on. To achieve that they built the shoe with a Flat-Waisted Design that serves as a broad platform to work from, providing stability and giving the RMAT J-Frame™ plenty of room to support and cushion every step. As you roll forward on the Late Stage Meta-Rocker of the outsole, you'll stay locked into the shoe thanks to the Arch Lock Wings that surround your foot while keeping it exactly where it's supposed to be.

I bought these because of the advertised stability. I hoped to experience the HOKA cushion paired with stability and foot guidance I am used to from my ASICS. This was unfortunately not the case. As another reviewer mentioned, they look huge (wide) and then they seem narrow or flat to a point that they compress the blood out of my foot, and your foot gets super hot. I do not give up easily on anything so I did not give up on my pair and figured out the correct lacing technique to allow blood flow into my feet and found a good insole for my arch support and foot guidance. So now in combination I like to run with them, but, yes, just like...not love.
Overall not what I expected hence my low rating.

Ordered this in a wide, but it isn't as wide as the Bondi or Arahi. Toes have decent room to move, but the shoe narrows down too quickly and puts pressure on the forefoot. Love the material's elasticity and the tongue that doesn't slip. Unfortunately my forefoot pain means I have to return these.

Comments about Hoka One One Gaviota Running Shoe Women's, Sky Blue/Surf the Web, 10:
I spend up to 9 hours/day on my feet on concrete floors. This has caused ankle pain and a possible stress fracture. I need a supportive, yet cushioned shoe to ease the impact of the long hours walking on concrete. This shoe has helped tremendously!

This is my second pair of Hoka Gaviotas, and I will continue to buy them in the future. I love them. They are steady and cushioned. I have difficulty with twisted ankles due to weakened tendons, but the Gaviota makes me feel stable.

My daughter is a new nurse. She said all the nurses on her floor were wearing your shoes, so I surprised her with a pair for her new job. She said your shoes are the most comfortable shoes she has ever had.

I was in dire need of work out shoes. I have osteoarthritis in both knees and both of my ankles have loose tendons causing them to roll in and out. I have always been told by my orthopedist to wear new balance. Now don't get me wrong, I still love new balance, but I have made my new balance shoes my everyday shoes. My Hokas are my workout shoes. I walk the track several times and use the cardio and weight machines. The first time I wore my Hokas, I was a bit skeptical, as I thought this was just another shoe company passing off their shoes as being great stability shoes. I was so wrong... I fell in love with them and even convinced my sister in law who wears the same size I do to get herself a pair for everyday wear as she is on her feet a great deal. Thank you Hoka, for making such a great shoe. I am definitely hooked and will be a return customer!

I've tried Brooks, New Balance & On. This shoe is awesome if you're looking for a wide toe box that is also a stability shoe. It's the only shoe, I found to correct my pronation. The proof was when I wore them out. The sole was wore off just in the center and not on the sides. Easy break in period. Still provides cushion when woren out. Shoe material holds up to everyday wear.

I bought these shoes after having severe metarsal pain in my foot. Three days later I went to the podiatrist and he said these were the only shoes he would allow me to wear until my surgery and then after I could most any of the other Hokas but only this brand due to their stability and cushioning. Kind of cool that I chose for myself the ones he wanted me to wear before I saw him.

I ordered the regular width women's Gaviota and found it too narrow. I returned it and asked for a wide width to replace it, but they didn't have any. I need a stability shoe so no Hoka for me.
